Pitchfork - "Yes Yes to You" Review
"The Affair seem like...the type of band that'll find its way into mixes on the strength of their...brilliant hooks and clear, consistent viewpoint."
- Mark Richardson, Pitchfork

USA Today - Listen Up Blog - "Andy"
"With its low-end production and el-cheapo organ riffs, this New York quintet tale of secret romance recalls the '60s-minded '80s new wave of Blondie and The Cars."
- Ken Barnes, USA Today

Plan B - "Yes Yes to You" Review
"My recollection of grunge is hazy at best and late Seventies New York I wasn't born for, but thinking of either gives me a warm, nostalgic tingle. And I get exactly that from Yes Yes To You's wobbly punked-up Blondie-isms, frail and comforting as an imported childhood memory."
-Andrzej Lukowksi, Plan B, June 2007

Treble Zine - "Yes Yes to You" Review
"Above all, Yes Yes to You is a party from start to finish. Lyrics about teenage love combined with genre-hopping music and one hell of a powerhouse voice make for the start of a long-term addiction."
- Terrance Terich, Treble Zine

30music.com - "Yes Yes to You" Review
"But look out—when the band hits its stride and Kali Holloway’s voice sulks, shimmies, and shouts its way through their loose, warm grooves, The Affair are an unexpected force to be reckoned with."

Delusions of Adequacy - "Yes Yes to You" Review

Vice - "Yes Yes to You" Review
"Friggin finally! Man we’ve been waiting for this album to come out forever. So now that it’s out everyone’s gonna be like, "Hey, have you heard this rad new band called the Affair?" And we can do the little "Pssh, I was into them like three years ago already" face and feel supercool. Everybody wins!
- Meg Sneed, Vice

From Blown Speakers - "Yes Yes to You" Review
"The band isn't exactly trying to break new ground with their new new-wave sound, but what they lack in originality they make up for with tunes, and the latter is often better than forced novelty anyhow."
- From Blown Speakers

Pop Matters - "Yes Yes to You" Review
"That’s not to say there aren’t some things I like about this album. In particular, the band uses keyboard player Neel Arant effectively to complement, and sometimes to carry, their spare arrangements, echoing the Epoxies, Attractions-era Elvis Costello, and early Blondie."
- Pop Matters

Chicago Sun-Times - SXSW Show Review
"[The Affair's] biggest asset is fiery vocalist Kali Holloway, but the group also benefits from more direct rhythms, textured keyboards and a pop sensibility that owes as much to early Blondie as bubblegum pop and the girl groups of the '60s."
- Jim DeRogatis, Chicago Sun-Times

AllMusic.com - "Yes Yes to You" Review
"...on one's stereo or iPod it all swirls together perfectly, as the band meld all their influences into big, bouncy, ebulliently infectious pop songs."
- Jo-Anne Greene, AllMusic.com

San Francisco Weekly - "Yes Yes to You" Review
"Yes to You's songs are two- and three-minute marvels of economic construction and sharply memorable punk-pop melodic hooks... Just when I think this rock 'n' roll stuff has run its course and/or sunken to self-parody, along come bands like the Affair to show there's still plenty of vitality in the old beast."
- Mark Keresman, San Francisco Weekly

Hartford Courant - "Yes Yes to You" Review
"In its determination to avoid sounding like every other New York band of the new millennium, the Affair reached beyond Velvet Underground and Talking Heads to the sounds of early-'60s girl groups and scruffy late-'70s rock. Think Ronnie Spector with a switchblade in her pocket and a pile of raw guitar riffs."
- Eric R. Danton, Hartford Courant

Playboy Magazine - "Yes Yes to You" Review
"Don't dismiss this as just another New York band. In creating its sassy lo-fi update of X-Ray Spex and early Blondie, this combo uses lots of toy-organ tones evocative of such deliciously amateurish protogarage acts as the Pop Tarts and Helen Love. Singer Kali Holloway is a star."
- Playboy Magazine

"Pitch-perfect Blondie-inflected new wave anthem. You will not be able to stop yourself singing along to this."

Andy/Anything But Disco (You Ruined My Life) 7" Review
"...A-side Andy is a wonderfully infectious bitter sweet effort that bobs and weaves somewhere between kitsch 60s girlpop and strident late 70s New York nu-wave. Meanwhile b-side Anything but Disco is more Plastic Letters era Blondie, its catchy organ driven chorus coming resplendent with handclaps. More please!"

The Affair: Rock & Roll Survival
"The Affair, a New York based band, embodies the rock and roll survival ethos. Their music manages to pull off earnest rock and roll chops with the much needed modern nod of ironic self-awareness. This is rock and roll, kicking screaming and having fun along the way."
- Heather Hoskeer, Dork Magazine

The Tyee Music Pix
"It might be obvious to mention Blondie when talking about the Affair, as they're totally rocking the throw back new wave vibe that's so hip these days. That being said, Kali Holloway's vocals put them a cut above the rest of the keyboard-worshipping NYCers out there. Powering right over the crunchy guitars and bass, four-four drums, and gratuitous synth stabs, she's Debbie Harry's attitude with Ronnie Spectors pipes."
- Quinn Omori, The Tyee

Hey, I'm Doing It, Too
"I've been wondering how long it would be until the Affair made the leap from "band you've been waiting to see break through for two years, since you first saw them by accident opening for somebody else" to "band you feel really satisfied for having known about since you first saw them by accident opening for somebody else two years ago," for about two years now, ever since I first saw them, by accident, opening for somebody else..."

Vice Magazine Fashion Feature
Kali Holloway is the lead singer for the Affair. She has a killer voice that falls somewhere between Poly Styrene and Freda Payne. Basically, she can really belt it out. The Affair’s debut album comes out on The First Time Records in early 2006 and we are very excited.

Hot New Band Alert
Definitely check out NYC band The Affair post haste. Ebullient, energetic noise pop fronted by one Kali Holloway, a longtime music fan with an amazing voice--powerful and full of melody. They're debuting [an ep] next spring (after releasing a single on Vice), but get infatuated early by checking out a couple tunes on their MySpace page.

When I was a young fella, I had a crush on Debbie Harry. I remember getting a magazine with some rock posters and putting a Blondie poster up in my room. Right before one of our first dates after meeting, my wife bought me a Blondie album ... not knowing my fondness for Blondie, it was a joke because my hair was blonde. Anyways, to this day, when I hear one of Debbie's older songs on the radio, I think of my youth and simpler times. Their newer stuff just doesn't cut it for me. Blondie pretty much fell off my map after that horrendous "comeback abum." Luckily, for me, I get to talk about The Affair, from NYC, whose singer Kali Holloway has an uncanny late 70s Harry-like voice. The backing band is just as intriguing, combining a new wave sound with some punk guitar riffs. Because of this, I also reminded of another favorite band of mine, X.
- Mystery and Misery

Opening for La Laque was The Affair, also stylish in their own right, also featuring a beautiful lady vocalist with well-choreographed moves, only their key was major instead of minor, their melodies more playful than seductive. If I were Dick from High Fidelity, I'd say, "They're kind of New Pornographers-ish, and lead singer Kali Holloway has a post-'X Offender ,' pre-'Rapture' Debbie Harry kind of thing, but she's, you know, uh, black." They successfully established an upbeat, colorful mood to contrast La Laque's subsequent noir; now if only the execs at Vice could successfully release The Affair's long-delayed record, the band might rightfully establish itself in the public eye as a damn fine pop outfit.
- Joe O'Brien, www.cityzen.tv

Last week I posed a simple question to some friends and co-workers: What's the best band in New York, signed or unsigned? The responses were varied: one vote came in for Les Savy Fav, one for the Rapture, one for LCD Soundsystem, one for The Affair.
Coolfer.com

The Affair topped the night off for every hipster’s delight. The Affair’s Blondie comparisons are bringing in tons of interested peeps even through they have hardly been around more than four months. Kali’s vocals/lyrics assure us of a promising future.
- Leo Cerezo, Filter Magazine

The Affair's Kali [is] her own sparkling livewire of new wave rock star energy. While live shows aren't the best place to hear the deep and exact meaning of lyrics, I could tell enough from the bittersweet emotion and relish with which she delivered them that they come from a hell hath no fury heart. Kali is…a whirling dervish disco devil…[and] the players in The Affair are as solid as they come; a steady foundation for to put on her dancing shoes – worn out as they may be from playing gigs and stomping mudholes in foolhardy exes.
- Jasper Coolidge, www.jenyk.com

Lest you think The Affair is all fluff and stuff, be warned that this is quite the dangerous band. Infused with high strung keyboards, crashing fuzzy guitar, a smooth as a baby's bottom low end, precision booming beats and all-around looks that kill, their upcoming debut ep set to come out on Vice Records ought to be one of the most heavily anticipated records to come out in the young new year.
- Jasper Coolidge, www.jenyk.com

The Affair seductively mine a fertile time in New York’s musical history: the late 1970s/early 1980s period when sharp guitar nestled in with darting keyboards and assertive vocals to create some of the most brittle yet beautiful tunes ever (think Blondie’s ‘Call Me’ and ‘Heart of Glass’). In fact, singer Kali Holloway shares a definite vocal style with Debbie Harry – but her intriguing vocal ticks make the songs all her own. Meanwhile, Neel Arant’s keyboard lines and Josh Leeman’s guitars swirl seductively underneath and Marc Pattini’s steady drumming holds it all together. The Affair also stand out due to the eclectic attention they’ve attracted... from sometime rockfeedback (non-)media-cohorts ArtRocker, to artists ranging from Electric Six to Junior Senior, for whom the band recently opened in NYC. And now hipsters Vice Records, who plan to release The Affair’s first single early in the new year.
– Joshua Kruter, www.rockfeedback.com

While everyone and their mother (a cliché, I’m aware, but effective still) loves The Strokes (and with good reason, the disc’s penultimate track is an out-and-out winner), there are groups that remain comparable if not surpass them. One such gang is The Affair, a one-year-old blistering rock-n-roll four-piece whose reverence towards grit and substance are only rivaled by its formidable style and chops. Consisting of drummer Marc Pattini, Neel Arant on keyboards and guitar, Josh Leeman (from power popular sensations, The Amber Smith) on lead guitar and Kali Holloway on vocals, The Affair expunge the seedy side of NYC’s Lower East Side circa 1976/77 better and more realistically then The Hives, D4 and The Datsuns could ever hope to, even when hyped by the most influential and tawdry of press rags. Tracks range from two to three minutes and address topics about not being the boy next-door (“Honey”) to driving around in endless boredom (“Hours”). An explicit and implied lyrical panoply of “oh yeahs” and wanton “it’s been so long since you loved me”s are set to youthful beats and catchy-as-hell, fuzzed-out guitar riffs.
